Are toy shares the key to fighting back against the pressures put on parents each Christmas?

  • Emily Smith

Retailers are expecting a bumper year on toy sales for Christmas 2018, with a predicted £1.1bn being spent on gifts for children of all ages.

With the most popular Christmas gifts getting more and more expensive every year, the pressure heaped on parents to provide their kids with everything on their list to Santa can feel overwhelming and can cause real worry and stress on the run-up to the big day.

It's a vicious cycle: toy companies release more and more products which they aim at children, parents feel pressured to buy them and also to keep up with the number of presents other children get, then finally, at the end of the festive season, a big credit card bill lands on the doormat.

But instead of caving into the toy industries tempting techniques to get parents to part with more money than they can afford, toy share parties could offer a simple solution to Christmas overspending and give children the opportunity to play with more toys than they ever thought possible.

Even the most desired toy soon ends up thrown in the toy box as children can tire of their new gifts quite quickly, so by inviting a few little friends over for a get together you can encourage your children to share their toys and it also gives them the opportunity to try out some other items that their friends bring along too.

Not only will this encourage sharing and communication between the children, but parents won’t feel so pressured to buy every single gift on their child’s list as they’ll still be able to play with someone else’s for a few hours.

If you’ve got a close circle of parent friends, you could even ‘trade’ toys for a few days so your child will always have plenty to play with during the Christmas holidays.

To help keep squabbles breaking out when it comes to toy ownership, our range of sticky name labels is perfect for toys and can stop any disagreements into who owns what. Available in a range of colours and fonts, you can apply these stickers before the toy share party so that any identical or similar toys always go home with their original owners.
